The course, designed by Joe Lee, first opened for play in 1988.
Grand Lacuna had deteriorated in the 2000's. New ownership in December 2010 significantly renovated the course and clubhouse. The course was originally designed as part of a residential real estate development, and is typical of most Florida courses with homes lining the fairways, and a lot of water in play. The rennovation leaves the routing and original layout basically unchanged. The tee boxes, fairways and rough have all been replaced with new grasses, the bunkers have also been reshaped with new sand. The greens are larger than they were and with more undulation, and grassed with tiff-eagle. .
#5 is a 568-yard (462 yards from the ladies/forward tees), par 5 has a waste bunker on the right side of the fairway, so if you’re going to miss off the tee, miss left. There is water on the left side of the fairway, but this should only affect big-hitters. You’ll want to avoid the left side altogether with your second shot, however, because the water comes into play at that point. Play to the right side of the fairway, which will leave you with a better angle to the large green.
#8 is a par 3 plays at 177 yards from the blue tees (125 yards from the ladies/forward tees) and requires you to hit an accurate shot to the middle of the green. If you can avoid the left and right side bunkers, as well as the water on the left, you should be okay. If you’re going to miss, it’s best to do so short right of the green or behind the green.
#18 is a 401-yard (311 yards from the ladies/forward tees), par 4 is a great finishing hole. You’ll need to hit an accurate tee shot, as there is water on the left side and short of the green. There are also bunkers guarding both sides of the fairway. Your approach shot to the green will require good club selection, but you can safely miss to the right.

It was the best course, by far, of the PUBLIC courses I played in the Palm Beach/Palm Gardens area.
